Six shows in Copenhagen and magic in Horsens: my week with two festivals
October is going to be something special this year. From Sunday 11 to Tuesday 13 October I am doing my show MIRAKLER six times at UP Comedy Festival in Copenhagen. The day after the last show I drive to Horsens, where Illusions, the international magic festival, fills the town with magicians from eight countries.
Two festivals in the same week, at opposite ends of the country, with two different kinds of shows. In Copenhagen it is MIRAKLER, comedy with magic inside it. In Horsens it is other shows that share some of the same elements. Here is what happens where, and how you can come along.
Anders Andresen: MIRAKLER at UP Comedy Festival
UP Comedy Festival is Denmark’s new comedy festival, spread across a number of stages in central Copenhagen. I am doing MIRAKLER six times over three evenings at Stâuan, a basement stage at Nybrogade 20.
- Sunday 11 October at 19:00 and 20:30
- Monday 12 October at 19:00 and 20:30
- Tuesday 13 October at 19:00 and 20:30
All six shows are listed with ticket links on my page at UP Comedy Festival. There's room for 40 people, so it'll be really cosy and intimate.
What kind of show is MIRAKLER?
MIRAKLER is about the small miracles. Not the big illusions with smoke and mirrors, but what happens right in front of people’s eyes when something completely ordinary behaves in a way it is not allowed to. Along the way there are jokes, magic and quite a lot of laughter.
It's as much stand-up as magic, and the two don't sit side by side in the show, they're woven into each other. The show lasts 60 minutes. If you want to know more about why I do both, I've written the story of how I became a magician and comedian.
If you haven't seen me before, you can watch clips on the video page and read what others say afterwards in the reviews.
Illusions in Horsens: Gran, IllusionsPladsen and Bytorv
Illusions is an international magic festival taking place in Horsens from 12 to 18 October. It's organised in collaboration with Pegani, the magic shop in Horsens, and Horsens Ny Teater, and it brings together magicians from eight countries. Here I am not doing MIRAKLER, but three other shows that share some of the same elements.
- Wednesday 14 October: Magi på Gran at Cafe GRAN. A whole evening with a welcome at 17:15, dinner, a musical act with Alex Barti and my magical stand-up show at 19:30. Adult ticket, DKK 495.
- Thursday 15 October at 15:00: 20 minutes of magic on the stage at IllusionsPladsen, under the tents between Kuben and Kilden on Søndergade. Free and for all ages.
- Saturday 17 October at 13:30: 30 minutes of magic on the Mærk Magien stage at Bytorv Horsens. Also free and for all ages.
I'm also bringing my impossible bottles to Horsens, bottles with objects inside that can't possibly have come in through the neck. You can see them in the Mærk Magien exhibition at Bytorv.
If you're walking around town during the festival week, you might well bump into me elsewhere too, handing out a bit of magic. Times and tickets are on my artist page at Illusions.
Why I do something different at the two festivals
The two festivals are not alike. At a comedy festival people come to laugh, so the magic is the unexpected part. At a magic festival people come to be amazed, so the humour is the unexpected part. That is why I do not do the same show in both places. MIRAKLER is built for a comedy stage, and in Horsens I take some of the same elements out to the festival square, where there are both children and adults.
It's also the difference I work with when I'm booked for a party or a company event. Sometimes the job is to get a whole group laughing through the evening, other times it's to give them something they can't explain the next day. I've written more about that choice in the post on magician or comedian for your party.
Book MIRAKLER for your company
If you cannot make it to Copenhagen in October, you can easily book MIRAKLER for your company. The show lasts 60 minutes and is a great fit for corporate events or other work occasions. In a few years I will surely be touring the country with it, but until then, this is how you can experience it.
For Christmas parties, weddings and birthday parties I do a show that fits the occasion.
Autumn is the busiest time of year, and the dates around the Christmas party season go first. If you want to be sure of a specific date, get in touch in good time.
